Introduction
Let me tell you a little story before we dive into the recipe for my ultimate homemade chicken parmesan. When I was just starting my career as a chef, I had the opportunity to work in a small Italian restaurant. The head chef, Chef Antonio, was a strict but incredibly talented man. He taught me the art of making authentic Italian dishes, and one of my favorites was his chicken parmesan.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a shallow dish, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, dried basil, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Place the flour in another shallow dish and season with salt and pepper. Dip each chicken breast into the flour, then the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add oil to the pan. Cook the chicken breasts for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Transfer the chicken breasts to a baking dish and top each breast with marinara sauce. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve with spaghetti or a side salad.
Enjoy this delicious and comforting homemade chicken parmesan!
