Introduction
Welcome to Chef Sven’s Kitchen! Today, I am going to share my secret recipe for the legendary Swedish meatballs. These mouthwatering meatballs are a true taste of Sweden and will transport you straight to the streets of Stockholm. Get ready to impress your family and friends with this classic Swedish dish!
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup finely chopped parsley
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, parsley, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. You should have around 40 meatballs.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of oil. Add the meatballs to the skillet, working in batches if necessary, and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set them aside. To make the gravy, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the same skillet over medium heat.
- Stir in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in 2 cups of beef broth until the mixture is smooth.
- Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes. Return the meatballs to the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until they are heated through.
- Serve the Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and a sprinkle of fresh parsley. Enjoy!
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my imaginary grandma Greta and I do. The combination of ground beef and ground pork creates a rich and flavorful meatball, while the blend of spices adds a touch of warmth and complexity. Don’t forget to smother them in lingonberry sauce for that authentic Swedish touch. Skål!
