Have you ever tried a Swedish meatball? If not, you’re in for a treat! Swedish meatballs are small, juicy meatballs served with a creamy sauce and lingonberry jam. They are a beloved traditional dish in Sweden, and today, I’m going to share with you my famous recipe for Swedish meatballs that will delight your taste buds!
Ingredients:
- 500g ground beef
- 250g ground pork
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Lingonberry jam, for serving
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, allspice, nutmeg, black pepper, salt, and egg. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly combined.
- Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about the size of a golf ball.
- Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the flour and whisk until it turns golden brown.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth and whisk until the sauce thickens.
- Stir in the heavy cream and bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer for another 10 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- Serve the Swedish meatballs hot with lingonberry jam on the side.
I hope you enjoy making and eating these delicious Swedish meatballs as much as I do! They make a fantastic main dish for any occasion, and the combination of flavors will keep you coming back for more. Don’t forget to serve them with lingonberry jam for that extra touch of sweetness.
