Today, I want to share with you one of my all-time favorite recipes: homemade spaghetti bolognese. This classic Italian dish is a staple in many households, and for good reason. It’s hearty, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. Plus, it’s super easy to make!
Growing up in Sweden, I didn’t have much exposure to Italian cuisine. But when I moved to the United States and started working as a chef, I quickly fell in love with the flavors and simplicity of dishes like spaghetti bolognese.
Now, let’s get cooking! Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup red wine (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Now that you have all your ingredients ready, let’s start cooking!
-
In a large skillet, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
-
Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
-
Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. If you want to add some extra flavor, you can also pour in a splash of red wine.
-
Simmer the sauce for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
-
While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions.
-
Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together, it’s time to serve! Plate the spaghetti and spoon the bolognese sauce over the top. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese.
And there you have it – Chef Sven’s easy homemade spaghetti bolognese! I guarantee this dish will become a family favorite. It’s simple, delicious, and perfect for a cozy night in. So, gather your loved ones around the table, pour a glass of red wine, and enjoy a taste of Italy right in your own home.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do. Until next time, happy cooking!
