Today, I want to share with you one of my all-time favorite recipes: Classic Swedish Meatballs. These delicious little bites of heaven are perfect for any occasion, whether you’re hosting a dinner party or just want to treat yourself to a comforting meal. The best part? They’re surprisingly easy to make! So let’s get started.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
-
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, dried parsley, dried thyme, ground allspice, ground nutmeg, salt, black pepper, and beaten egg.
-
Mix everything together until well combined. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and really get in there!
-
Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. You should get around 40 meatballs.
-
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil. Working in batches, add the meatballs to the skillet and brown them on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
-
Once the meatballs are browned, remove them from the skillet and set them aside.
-
In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Sprinkle in 2 tablespoons of flour and whisk until smooth.
-
Gradually whisk in 1 1/2 cups of beef broth and continue whisking until the mixture thickens slightly.
-
Stir in 1/2 cup of heavy cream and bring the mixture to a simmer.
-
Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer for an additional 5 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
-
Serve the meatballs hot with lingonberry sauce and mashed potatoes for a truly authentic Swedish experience.
I hope you enjoy making and eating these classic Swedish meatballs as much as I do. They’re a true labor of love, and I know they’ll bring a smile to your face with every bite. Happy cooking!
